A look at how the Puffing Billy Railway has progressed up until about the early 2000s. There’s not much text in this book, so if you want a good read the book, The Narrow Gauge : Whitfield, Gembrook, Crowes, Walhalla, is probably the best buy and read out of the three books on narrow gauge railways authored by Nick Anchen.
As with the other books, the photos are the strength of the publication. G42 is shown “brand new” steaming with 12A in 2005 after a $1.7 million restoration beginning in 1986 and completed in 2004. Sadly, in 2022, G42 is back in Menzies Creek Museum awaiting a major overhaul.
Other points of interest include the construction of Wright Trestle Bridge, aka bridge 8, between Wright and Cockatoo.
Overall, the book is good to have as the photos are excellent.
