Gallery 3 Retirement

After months of moving photos from my Gallery 3 install and onto WordPress with NextGen Gallery it’s time to close down Gallery 3.

Below are some screen shots of Gallery 3, a web application I liked working with. It had many features including automatic importing of IPTC meta data and it had hierarchical albums/galleries; which NextGen does not.

NextGen gallery for WordPress is now working very well and WordPress’s Gutenberg editor is turning into a good tool to use; so there’s no need to waste server space with another website with my photos.

My Gallery 3 History

The gallery was moved from Gallery 2 to a new one using Gallery 3. Upgrading to Gallery 3 was easy thanks to a module and it’s mostly an intact copy of the old gallery I had installed.

Support for Gallery 2 finished around 2010 and the Gallery Project team went on a break in 2014. In 2019 Gallery 3 was updated with a new project called Gallery Revival. It now runs with the latest PHP releases but I’m guessing the templates haven’t been updated and still aren’t mobile compatible.
