Jackie O’s (aka Jackie Henderson) autobiography is an excellent read, and it keeps you interested the whole time. The writing flows well, covering interesting aspects of her life.

The book starts covering her early family life, which was mostly happy, and how she found her way into radio broadcasting. Jackie’s first job in the industry was to screen and chat to callers for later inclusion in the show. Her rapport with the public was noticed, and it led to the role of broadcaster.

We learn that Kyle Sandilands played a huge part in Jackie’s professional development and her personal life. Kyle, with his hard exterior and crudeness, can have a softer side, and he came from a tough life experiencing homeless due to an abusive father.

Jackie first married Dave O’Neil (aka Ugly Dave) and it’s where the “O” comes from. Due to the demands of radio, the partnership didn’t last long.

Her second marriage to Lee Henderson produced a daughter, and together they built a dream house, a “Father of the Bride” house beautifully portrayed in the movie. The marriage breakdown was particularly difficult, probably made worse by Jackie’s fame and wealth, which her partner didn’t have.

She bravely covers her mental illness and the difficult road to recovery and happiness. This book section alone makes it an essential read. Anyone going through the same process would appreciate Jackie’s story.
