Nick Anchen has done a fine job interviewing and preserving the stories of the older railway workers, before they are lost to time.
While it’s great these rail tales have been saved, they are a bit hard to relate to unless you worked in the railways, especially around the 50s, 60s and 70s. I found myself skimming through most of them, occasionally finding the odd gem.
So this was probably my least favourite book from Nick Anchen. As for the other Nick’s books, the photos are excellent.

The stories capture places and practices and customs that have long since gone, providing a nostalgic glimpse into Australian life in the golden era of the railways.
A good read for those who want a personal and humorous view of life working for the railways.
