A walk from the Eltham Environs Walking Group.

Walk Description

From the Eltham Environs Walking Group, walk 34E

Commences at car park off The Boulevard, Heidelberg. Enter near the corner of Banksia St. Take the track through the park. Ignore the first right turn. Continue through wooden barrier, joining the Main Yarra Trail for a short distance. Do not follow the MYT across the river, but keep on the cement path to the fork in the path, where there is a ‘Snake Warning’ sign. Take the left fork. This path soon becomes gravel and leads to Wilson Reserve. Keeping the river on the left, pass the golf course on the right. There are three boardwalks on the path, two of which cross the Horseshoe Billabong. When the path divides, take the right turn, following the sign indicating the Irvine Road car park. Proceed as far as the large toilet block at the Chelmsford oval.

About turn, and fork off to the right to walk beside a chain vehicle barrier, following the edge of the oval for a short distance. Take the path leading off to the left, walking to a memorial to ‘Skipper’ Wilson. Double back to a main path leading off to the right. Follow this route back to the Burke Rd North bridge. Immediately beyond this bridge, a path off to the left leads uphill to Gruyere Cres on the right. Take this, and follow Gruyere Cres to The Boulevard. Walk the length of this stretch of The Boulevard to just before Banksia St. Turn right and walk 200m to the cars.
