Glynns Road, Warrandyte

Also known as Bob’s Wetland Walk, the walk at the end of Glynns Road, Warrandyte is a short one hour hike that takes you to an abandoned farm, ponds and the rocky cliffs against the Yarra River.

Being in a Covid-19 Stage 4 lockdown and being limited to a 5km radius from home it’s a good opportunity to try out walks nearby.

This walk at the end of Glynns Road in Warrandyte can be reached from Eltham via Mount Pleasant Road, Shorts Road, Overbank Road which becomes Glynns Road. Walk through a gap in the fence and proceed down the gated off part of Glynns Road.

Towards the bottom of the road there’s an interesting abandoned farm. Judging by the buildings they were abandoned in the early 2000’s. Now they are used by teens and graffiti artists.

Once past the farm the surrounds become semi bushland bordered by the Yarra River. There are many small wetland areas here with a number of them fenced off for research purposes.

At the end of the wetlands the track follows the river more closely and it’s here that it gets more rugged in places. After some distance the track goes up the hill towards the car park in a zig zag pattern. It’s likely that continuing to follow the river will lead to an old paddock fence.

Climbing up the hill will return you to the car park. Overall it’s an easy to moderate walk with many varied sights along the way. Well worth doing.
