A pleasant walk along the Yarra River in Tikalara Park, in Templestowe.
This walk is reached by driving along Target Road, located at the back of the carpark for Beasley’s Nursery.
The scenery starts of slow with a walk down the power transmission line maintenance road. After some time there’s a turn-off to the left through a gate opening in the fence, where the gate is long gone.
This takes you through some fences and a large over grown daisy field. In the full sun it would look very colourful. The track is difficult to follow here and maybe easier in drier weather, but then snakes may be a problem. Best to watch where you put your feet.
Soon Pontville Homestead is reached, a derelict farm house with a surrounding veranda.
We were hoping to cross Mullum Mullum Creek but the bridge has suffered damage over the years and is no longer usable, and it’s completely fenced off making it very difficult to get onto.
So rather than go back through the daisies we walked along the river using a well worn track. This is a much better way to go and it’s obvious that it gets a lot more use than the daisy field track.
