Hargreaves and Harvey Roads, Steels Creek

A short walk which is worth doing if you are near Yarra Glen.

Not all walks need to be walked. I drove this one to check it out, getting as far as 1km shy of Harvey Road’s end. This walk can be walked from anywhere along the route where your car can be parked. For the full walk, park near the tennis courts.

Harvey Road is drivable, but it becomes impassable about 1km from the end. So park the car for a short one-kilometre walk to the bushy end of Harvey Road. If it has been wet, there are a couple of water obstacles to get past.

Walk Description

From the Eltham Environs Walking Group, walk 56E

Commences at the corner of Steels Creek Rd and Hunts Lane, 3km beyond Melway 266 K1. To reach Hunts La, turn left off the Eltham-Yarra Glen Rd into Steels Creek Rd. Drive for about 5 minutes, passing Pinnacle La on your right. Continue on, noting Old Kinglake Rd veering off to the left. The bridge that crosses Jehosaphat Creek is just beyond this road, as is Hunts La, which will be on the right. Park opposite the tennis courts located on your left, or in Hunts La, on the verge on the left.

The walk: Proceed north along Steels Creek Rd in the direction in which you have just driven. Veer right into Greenwood La (actually a continuation of Steels Creek Rd). Turn right into Hargreaves Rd. Turn left into Harvey Rd, and continue to the end (the road peters out in bushland). Return via the same route.
