Walk Description

From the Eltham Environs Walking Group, walk 50E

Commences at the end of Birchwood St, Fawkner. To access this, use the Western Ring Road, leaving it at Sydney Rd (not the Hume Freeway exit). Turn left into Sydney Rd, and, after 250m, left again into Anderson Rd. 500m along Anderson Rd, the third left is Birchwood St. From the turning circle at the end of Birchwood St, join the Merri Creek Trail, and walk along the West bank of Merri Creek. After 1km, the path divides: take either fork, as they rejoin. A similar bifurcation occurs after another 150m: again follow either the upper or lower fork. When the paths rejoin, walk a further 800m-1km to a foot bridge. At this point, you are close to the St Basils Homes on your right (but only visible if you walk up the sloping path beyond the bridge). After a short break, retrace your steps, perhaps using the alternative paths where the Trail divides.
