Quarry Hills Bushland and Granite Hills Parks, Mill Park Lakes

A walk from the Eltham Environs Walking Group.

Walk Description

From the Eltham Environs Walking Group, walk 39M

Commences from the Hillview Reserve car park, 100 The Great Eastern Way, Mill Park Lakes. Walk S towards the South Morang Power Terminal along the Great Eastern Way to Findon Rd, turn right along path adjacent to Findon Rd, then right at the roundabout into The Lakes Bvd.

Almost immediately, turn left onto the path, then right across a grassy section to find the path in Quarry Hills Bushland Park that tracks uphill on the left. Pick up the path that continues to the lookout on the right. Continue on this path to a second lookout, and then walk up to Eagle’s Lookout – the highest of the three. The track ahead is narrower and rougher; follow this.

When grassy and rocky ground is reached, veer right and walk downhill to Meridian Way. This divides two sections of the housing estate. Subdivision works and high fences have made walking temporarily difficult in the immediate area. After crossing Henderson Creek (now drained to become a series of billabongs), look for a grassy track which trends upwards. This leads to Granite Hills Park, which is on the opposite side of the valley to Eagle’s Lookout.

Follow this to the summit, then retrace the route part way down the hill. Instead of returning to Meridian Way, on reaching the T-junction, take the left track about 200m below the top of the hill down to Topaz Gv. Continue straight ahead on Gordans Rd, through two roundabouts. Gordans Rd continues on the left, while the road ahead is now The Great Eastern Way. Follow this to the cars. There is a café in The Boulevard, and several in the Plenty Valley Shopping Centre.
